National and Local Tennis Success

Both the U19 boys and girls tennis teams qualified for the National finals of the Glanvill and Aberdare School Tennis Championships.  This is the premier event in schools tennis as it does not have a cap on ratings so we were competing against some of Britain's best junior tennis players.  Both teams performed superbly and showed excellent determination and sportsmanship like behaviour throughout the week.  The girls team won their first two matches against Lymm High School and Framlingham College.  In the Semi finals they faced the eventual winners Cheam High School.  The girls put up a brave fight but the opponents proved too strong in the end.   Overall finish position for the girls team was an excellent 4th in the country, our best ever finish in this competition.  The boys team had a tougher first round match against Millfield School.  Again solid performances were shown by all the team but Millfield's specialist tennis academy (who were the eventual runners up) proved to have the edge.  Later in the week the boys team were victorious against Greenhead College, convincingly defeated them in all singles and doubles matches, to make a final placing of 15th in the country.   Well done to both teams, all team members performed exceptionally well and we would like to especially thank Elliot Bussey who played his final match for the school.  Like Simon Weatherup, who played his last match two weeks ago, he has been consistently committed to school tennis over the past 7 years helping the school teams reach six National Finals.  We wish them every success in the future.

Havering Tennis Success

The strong year 8 & under boys team played exceptionally well all season to finish 3rd in Essex.  Year 8 team member Harry Cannons become Havering Singles Champion last week with Billly Bilton as runner up.  In the doubles event final Cannons joined up with Gopal Sagoo in a closely fought match against Bilton and Kane Patience.  Bilton and Patience had to settle for second place as Cannons and Sagoo fought through to become Havering Champions.  Well done to all team members:

U19 boys team:  Elliot Bussey, Simon Weatherup, Jordan Jones, James Davis and Billy Elliott
U19/U15 girls team:  Eva Dench, Adele Sammons, Sian Green and Emily Defroand
Year 10 & Under boys team:  Rob Lewis, Adam Gray, Nikhil Mayor and Josh Cipa
Year 8 & Under boys team:  Kane Patience, Harry Cannons, Billy Bilton and Gopal Sagoo

Athletics Update - Track and Field Cup

We have seen much success this month with the boys and girls athletics teams.  In the first round at Blackshots Stadium in Thurrock the scores were as follows:

Junior Boys - 440 points
Junior Girls - 304 points
Inter Boys - 396 points
Inter Girls - 304 points

The team totals were very strong in this round with some standout individual performances from Jed Rimell (400m, 57.6s, 25pts), James Perkins (200m, 24.2s, 23pts), Michael Blunt (LJ, 5.66m, 21pts), Bethany Chambers (200m, 28.1s, 24pts) and Sophie Baggs (Discus, 30.47m, 28pts).  The Junior boys and junior girls team scored enough to progress to the Regional A final at Chelmsford whereas the Inter boys and Inter girls team progressed to the Regional B final at Cambridge.

17th June was the date of the East of England regional B final and both teams put in some dedicated performances.  The Inter boys team finished 6th with a score of 391 points and the Inter girls team finished 1st with a team total of 310 points.  Well done to both teams.

The East of England regional A final saw our two teams compete amongst some of the best school in the country.  All athletes showed excellent physical endeavour and performed well under pressure.  Despite injuries, the junior girls team put in some fine performances and scored 316pts finishing in 6th place.  Top points on the track were scored by Lydia Hallam (1500m, 5m20.7s, 22pts) and on the field by Grace Duffey (Discus, 21.19m, 21pts).  Congratulations girls.

The junior boys team went into the competition with high hopes.  Having scored very well nationally in the first round the pressure was on to perform.  The perserverance in training certainly paid off and all the team performed as well as possibly on the day finishing in 5th place with a massive total team score of 482 points in the strongest regional round in the country.  There were many fantastic results and personal bests but special mentions must go to Billy Bilton who scored a total of 49 points for the team (hurdles = 12.9s, 25pts and javelin = 31.63m, 24pts).  In addition Jed Rimell was an excellent leader on the day and performed a new best in his 400m event with 56.6s scoring the most points by any male Coopers' Coborn athlete this year in a single event, 27!  No boys team has qualified for the National Athletics Final since 1993.  We keep our fingers crossed for the team as we wait for the final results to come through.   Whatever happens you have certainly given it your all and made the school very proud, very well done to the whole team!

Tennis Success - Essex League

Congratulations to the U15 boys and U15 girls tennis teams who both became Essex Champions.  The teams travelled to New Hall School on Thursday 18th June for the final match after a making their way to the top of some tough box league matches.  In the final singles and doubles victories for Rob Lewis, Adam Gray along with an impressive doubles win for Josh Cipa and Nikhil Mayor sealed the boys team title.  In the girls event convincing singles victories for Eva Dench, Adele Sammons and Sian Green put the girls in front.  The title was secured by some superb doubles play by Dench and Sammons along with Green and Pippa Wilson.   Well done to both teams who are now through to the regional play-offs in October.

Glanvill Cup

The U19 boys team had their regional play-off match against Alexandra Park School in the national Glanvill Cup competition on Tuesday 16th June.  Not only was the match a decider to see which team progressed to the National Finals at Queenswood but it also held some sentimental value as it was the last school match for year 13 student Simon Weatherup.  Simon along with doubles partner Elliot Bussey have been excellent role models for school tennis and represented the CCCS consistently for 7 years always with maximum effort and  determination.  This match was no different.

After a convincing start from Jordan Jones and Billy Elliott in the doubles along with Weatherup in the singles, Coopers' Coborn lead 2-0.  Closely fought but unfortunate losses by Bussey, Jones and Elliott in the singles meant the overall score was 3-2 in the favour of Alexandra Park.   Victory was on the shoulders of Bussey and Weatherup who produced some amazing tennis to win their doubles match on a tie-break.  With the scores tied at 3-3 the national final place was to be decided by a doubles championship tie-break shoot out (first to 10 points).  For the final time in their school careers Bussey and Weatherup stepped up to the challenge.  After a shaky start and some heart-stopping rallies the boys eventually racked up a match point with a 9-8 leadBussey's powerful serve then set up a mid-court smash for Weatherup, who hit it perfectly just inside the baseline, making CCCS progress through to the National Finals.  Well done to the whole team.  An excellent display of team tennis.  Good luck in the final and a final thank you to Simon Weatherup for 7 years of support to school tennis.  We wish you well in the future.

Other tennis news:   The year 8 boys team have performed well this season so far.  Victories against West Hatch and Shenfield set up a semi-final match against Southend School which we narrowly lost after games count back.  Further success was found by both the A and B team in a friendly match against New Hall and 5 boys are through to the Havering Tennis Finals next month.  Well done to all the teamKane Patience, Harry Cannons, Billy Bilton, Gopal Sagoo, Alec Roeper, Nick Duffey, Huxley True, Rob Gardner and Jonathon Murphy.

Finally the year 7 team have started their careers at the school well.  George Gray, Charlie Thatcher, David Mould, Ryan Gooday, Adam Willet and Rohan Mayor have been regularly training at school with new coach Lee Duncan.  They had been listening well and had a good win against West Hatch School.  Playing a year out of age against many of their opponents we certainly look forward to seeing them progress next year.  Well done!

Senior Students National Tennis Success

Congratulations to the Year 11 Tennis team who became the second best senior (yr 11-yr 13) tennis team in the country on 21st March.
Jordan Jones, James Davis, Billy Elliott and Jonathan Foong were the youngest team in the competition but didn't let this faze them as they all produced some of their best tennis in an exciting weekend at the Bolton International Arena.

250 schools entered the tournament and the team had qualified for the finals after topping the Essex league and subsequently winning three regional knockout matches, from November - February.

At the finals they eased to victory in the first match of their box beating Scottish school Strathallan and they built on this with a convincing 4-2 defeat of Greenhead College.  This final match in the box, and decider for the final, was against the defending champions Hills Road College.  The opponents raced to a 3-0 lead after winning two close doubles rubbers and a hard-fought singles against Foong.

However in nail-biting fashion Coopers Coborn battled back and won the next three singles matches thanks to Elliott, Davis and Jones.  With the score at
3-3 a doubles tie-break shoot out was played.  Davis and Jones stepped up to the challenge to represent CCCS (having already succeeded in similar fashion three times in qualifying) and produced an outstanding display of doubles tennis to win 10-6 and book the final spot.

In the final Bournemout school went in as favourites, and depsite wins for Davis and Jones in the double and Jones in his singles, CCCS settled for a well deserved second place.

Well done to all four members of the team.  You did the school very proud.  This summer looks to be a successful one for tennis!

National Schools Biathlon Championships - Quadruple National Champions! - 16th March

On Sunday we travelled to Bath for the National Schools Biathlon Championships 2009.  A successful event for us last year proved even more so this year!  The standard had risen considerably due to the new entry system making it harder to qualify.  However four teams managed to qualify this year and one indvidual.

The event consists of a 100m swim and a 1000m run (non-transitional).  Points are scored for how quickly the events are completed.  All teams performed remarkably well with the Year 12 / 13 girls team becoming National Champions.  Georgie-Lou Sales finished her last National Finals in style with victory to become individual champion by 4 points!  She was especially pleased as she ran a new PB on the track breaking the 3 minute barrier for the first time.  Gemma Phillips, who also showed some remarkable form on the run with a new PB, and Jennifer Holland, competiting in her final school sport event, made up the rest of the team.

The year 11 boys team produced a fantastic teaam effort also with a superb win to become our second National team champions.  James Davis, the Havering Young Athlete of the year, produced a lifetime best in the run with a time of 2mins 46 secs, as did Tom Toolis and Toby Jarvis, with a times of 2 mins 48 secs and 2 mins 52 secs respectively.  All three put in gutsy performances in the swim to finish individually on the overall points score in 4th (Davis), 5th (Toolis) and 18th (Jarvis).

The triple team title was secured by the Year 11 girls team made up of Nicole Raymond, Nikki Twine and Sidnie Sales.  The girls blew the competition out of the water and won their event by over 400 points!!  Raymond produced lifetime bests in the pool (62.31) and on the track (3mins 09 secs) to secure a well deserved 2nd individual place.  Twine and Sales added to team score with 7th and 13th overall placings.

Finally the year 7 boys team competed in their first ever National Final along with individual competitor in year 8, Jed Rimmel.  Freddy Keefe, Charlie Davis and Charlie Fox all relished their first experience of national level compeition with a fine 7th overall team finish.  Rimmel's enthusiasm and dedication to training prevailed as his spirited performances on the track and in the pool rewarded him with an 8th overall finish.

Well done to all athletes, a great weekend and result!

February News

Senior Students Tennis - 27th Febraury

The senior students tennis team produced their most imressive result of the winter season on Friday with victory over Mill Hill school.  It was a nail-biting encounter with both teams drawing 2 matches all after the singles with Jordan Jones winning his match 6-2 and James Davis narrowing out his opponent in a tie-break.

In the doubles it was a similar story with Coopers winning one and Mill Hill winning the other.  With the scores even at 3 matches all, it came down to both teams pitching two players to play a fixture, and also NATIONAL FINAL, deciding championship tie-break (first to ten points).  Davis and Jones stepped up to the challenge and produced a convincing 10-3 victory to secure Coopers a place in the National Finals at the International Bolton Arena later in March.

Well done to the whole team:  Jordan Jones, James Davis, Billy Elliott and Jon Foong.

This is the first time Coopers Coborn have qualified for these finals and we wish them the best of luck!

Cross Country

Well done to everyone who took part in the year 7 & 8 Essex Schools Cross Country race last week (11th Feb).  With over 260 athletes in each race it proved to be one of the toughest races of the year, not to mention the muddiest.  Spikes were definitely needed here!  Coopers Coborn did extremely well as a school and we managed the following team finishes:

Year 7 boys -  9th out of 44 schools
Year 7 girls -  3rd out of 43 schools
Year 8 boys -  8th out of 42 schools
Year 8 girls -  2nd out of 43 schools

In addition special mention must go to Freddy Keefe in year 7 who won his race.  This is the first time in a long while someone from Coopers has achieved this feat and is down to his commitment and dedication to training and competiting.   Well done Freddy.

Finally, and by no means least, 4 pupils managed to qualify for the Essex Schools team.  These were:  Freddy Keefe, Lydia Hallam, Nick Shade and Hannah Bloy.  Good luck when you represent Essex at the Inter-Counties later this month.  We watch all of your futures with great interest!

Well done to everyone who took part.  Keep training.. athletics season is on the horizon!:

Each event is scored and the total points at the end of three events make up the overall result.  The competition was held over two days, which meant two stays overnight!, and was extremely exciting and successful.  All our athletes performed remarkably well when you consider that it was not only schools competing but clubs from all around Great Britain.  The final positions below, therefore, are their overall ranking in Great Britain.

MALTA!!  Swimming Tour 2008

The swimmers have just all returned from Malta and an amazing time was had by all.  The purpose of the trip was to improve fitness, stroke technique and develop a team culture.  It was definitely a huge success and luckily the weather was hot and sunny all week.  The week was full of eventful moments, some highlights are below:

  • Welcome foam party at the local nightclub for all the schools.  Check out the pictures from this night!
  • Swimming in a 50m outdoor swimming pool with the National coach Andy.  He had some great new drills and ideas that the swimmers will remember and take with them throughout their training and competing.  Including the famous dolphin jumps!!
  • High board diving (or should I say pencil jumps!).
  • Early morning runs with Mr Duncan- very impressed with the turnout and effort each morning.
  • Trip to Aqualand and the huge vertical drop orange slide.
  • Mrs Barratts team building games and dares.
  • Jonny's brilliant entertaining -  New York, New York and piano playing!
  • Late night trick or treating.
  • Training with Gail - Maltese coach who swum at the Atlanta 1996 olympics and was Malta Coach in Beijing this year!
  • Competing against local Maltese swimming clubs and winning 80% of the medals!
  • Visit to the Beach and tacky shops.
  • Final dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe in Halloween theme- with dancing on the tables!

Thank you to all the swimmers for your behaviour and attitude thorughout the trip.  You did yourserves very proud and were a credit to the school.  Watch the space for information on future tours!   Mr Duncan and Mrs Barratt.

This weekend saw two of our tennis stars in year 8 reach the boys doubles National Finals of the Save The Children Tennis Tournament.  Harry Cannons and Gopal Sagoo won in the school tournament which was held in the Summer term.  The tournament raised money for charity by charging an entry fee for all entrants.

By winning the school stage the boys then represented Coopers' Coborn in the regional stage, here they won convincingly to qualify to reach the finals and the opportunity to play at the national tennis centre in Roehampton this weekend.  It was a fantastic day and the boys brushed shoulders with some top tennis stars including Andy Murray (who was training next to them) and Pat Cash who presented the prizes.  The pair played exceptionally well together and went through to the semi-finals, only loosing one match in the group stages.  They won convincingly 6-2 in the semis and met their previous conquerers in the final.   This time however the boys raised their game and finished off the tournament in style with a spectacular 6-3 win to become
National Champions.

Congratulations Harry and Gopal a great result.

Mr Bremner's Report

It's been another action-packed and successful cricket season for The Coopers' Company and Coborn School. The 1st XI had a very eventful summer, which included participation in a Twenty20 tournament in Ipswich, a narrow defeat in the final of the Essex U/19 Cup and a successful defence of their U/17 Essex title. For the third successive season, the Under 15 team, captained by Jamal Francis won the London Schools Cricket Association Cup. They also reached the final of the Essex Twenty20 only to lose to Felsted in the final. The highlight of the summer was the inaugural 'cricket week' which included matches against a variety of schools outside of the county, as well as a Twenty20 fixture with Upminster Cricket Club. There was also an action packed 8-a-side Under 13 girls' tournament involving Hall Mead, Gaynes and Emerson Park. The 'week' ended with a visit from cricket legend Shane Warne's old school Mentone Grammar from Melbourne, Australia, who had no answer to the batting of Harry Jenkins (135 not out) and Christian Burgess (97 not out) as they amassed 254 runs for the second wicket. In reply, the Australians fell 51 runs short of Coopers' target, with James Borman taking five wickets. Nevertheless, the tourists enjoyed two nights of friendly hospitality with their hosts and everyone involved had a great time. Throughout the season there were some outstanding individual performances, particularly with the bat; the prolific Guy Balmford (U/15) was the leading run scoring with four centuries to his credit and Harry Jenkins (1st XI) scored three, one of which was made in the U/17 Essex final. Furthermore, history was made by Millie Martin when she became the first centurion in Coopers' girls' cricket. It is thanks to the talent and application of girls' like her that the school is one of a handful in the county where the girls' game is flourishing. This season the Coopers' girls made a clean sweep of all the Essex Cup competitions, to add to the indoor title won pre-season.

News From the Final 2 weeks of term!

English Schools Athletics Championships

Two of our pupils travelled to Gateshead last weekend to represent Essex in the English Schools National Track & Field Championships.  They were Lawrence Goodacre (Shot) and Georgie-Lou Sales (3,000m).  Lawrence, one of the youngest in his event, finished in 8th place with a huge throw of 14.00m with a 5kg shot.  Georgie-Lou also performed well in a hard fought race to finish 12th in a time of 10m36s.  Together they both helped towards the team total for Essex who were the overall winning county.  Congratulations to both of you!

National School Tennis Finals

Both boys and girls U19 tennis teams made it through to the National Schools Finals held at Queenswood School in Hertfordshire on the 7th - 9th July.  Both teams performed exceptionally well with the boys team, consisting of Elliot Bussey, Simon Weatherup, Jordan Jones and James Davis, finishing in a highly respectable 8th place in the country.  This is even more impressived cnsidering the fact that the team were only called up at the last minute as the school we played in the regional final withdrew.  The girls team, made up of Adele Sammons, Eva Dench, Emily Defroand and Sian Green, went one better and finished a commendable 7th place in the country.  Again this was equally impressive considering that all of our team were year 9 or below whereas most of the opposition were at least three years older (make that five for Sian!!)

The boys started off their competition (the Glanvill Cup) in style producing some of their best ever tennis to defeat Cheltenham College by 4 matches to 1.  There were some exciting matches and good ratings wins for Bussey, Jones and Davis.  The latter two tied things off by winning their doubles rubber in a championship tie-break!  Unfortunately the quarter finals proved to be a much tougher affair.  The opponents were Reeds School, the defending champions and also Tim Henmans old school! After a bravely fought match they were too strong for our team (and went on to win the competition).  The boys finished the tournament in 8th place which out of the hundreds of schools that entered the event is an excellent achievement.

The girls had a similar story in their competition (the Abedare Cup).  They started off strongly and showed some creative play to storm past Sedbergh School with all girls winning their singles matches.  In the quarter finals they faced Cheam school, the defending champions, and couldn't quite compete on the same level.  Cheam school won and went on to win the tournament overall.  The Coopers Coborn girls continued to perform well and went on to win one more match in the competition against St George's College to finish a well deserved 7th in the country.

Well done to all players, what a fantastic end to the summer season!

Havering Tennis Finals
The school performed exceptionally well at the borough finals day held at Next Generation in Gidea Park on the 8th July.  In the boys section we achieved a clean sweep winning all events and trophies.  In the U13 singles Rob Lewis showed some excellent skills and powerful shots to win with a 6-0 victory.  He then teamed up with Adam Gray and together they were far too strong for their opposition as they went on to win the title with ease.  In the U15 age group Billy Elliott rose to the occassion and captured his first singles win at this competition.  He partnered up with Jonathon Foong in the doubles tournament and they met another Coopers pair in the final, Tom Wilson and Andrew Carter.  The latter very kindly stepped in at the last minute to replace Jordan Jones who was needed at the National Tennis Finals.  This did not faze him however and there was some excellent shot making and doubles play in the final with eventual winners being Elliott and Foong.  Well done to all boys who took part.

In the girls competition there was similar success.  The U13 girls event saw Pippa Wilson fly through to the final where she brought out some of her best tennis to bring home the silverware.  She then teamed up with Lucy Taylor and together there ensured the U13 would sweep up by winning the final with an excellent display.  Unfortunately the U15 girls were away at the National Finals so we didnt have a team in this event due to both competitions being on at the same time.  Well done to all girls that took part.

National Schools Track and Field Cup Final
On Saturday 5th July the Inter Girls team competed in the National Athletic Finals at Hull.  The competition was strongly fought and despite the weather conditions the team performed remarkably well with many PBs made on the track.  Overall the team finished 5th in the country.  What a brilliant achievement, well done girls, we are all very proud of you.

Coopers Pentathlon
The whole school day on 3rd July saw the PE department host a Coopers Coborn Modern Pentathlon.  The day consisted of 5 teams, each a different country from one of the five continents, competing in 5 different events and trying to score points for their team.  The events were 'loosely' based on the events in the modern pentathlon which the school is now heavily involved in.  The events were: cycling, the great chase, shooting, padbox and welly throwing!!  One of the higlights was the shooting where a national coach came in with 8 hand air pistols and gave some excleent tuition to all pupils with some performing very well indeed.

The winning team was:   South Africa
The individual winner was: Tom Whipps (South Africa)
The highest scoring shooters were:  Mary Dunnet (GB) and George Ishmail (USA)

Well done to all pupils involved.  Look out for more Modern Pentahlon events and possibly an air pistol club starting soon.

Sports Day

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in sports day today.  You behaviour was excellent and their were some outstanding efforts throughout the year groups.  What was most impressive was the support you gave to others in your year, house and school.  It showed the true ethos of the school and you should all be very proud of yourselves.  You were a credit to the school.  Well done, more results and pictures from the day will follow shortly.

Modern Pentathlon Talk

This week saw Stuart Mason, the world class performance manager, and Bernie Moss, the National shooting coach, from the Modern Pentathlon GB visit school.  They gave a short presentation to 20 students about the Olympic pathway programmes and the support the governing body can provide.  It is hoped that some Coopers students will qualify for these programmes and that the school will be developed into a performance centre for the sport due to our excellent results at the Schools National Biathlon Finals.  Here we produced 2 individual National champions and three team National Champions.  The part of the afternoon which stood out for all students involved was the air pistol shooting which they got to take part in.  It is hoped that shooting will turn into a regular extra-curricular club so keep your eyes peeled for that if you are interested.

Track & Field Cup - Regional Rounds

Congratulations to the boys and girls athletics teams who competed in their regional finals this week.  On Monday the Inter boys team travelled to Cambridge for their final.  All boys performed exceptionally well and managed to score 475 points as a team, winning the regional final.  Unfortunately they just missed out on a place in the National Finals by 16 points.  However overall they finished 10th in the country which is an excellent achievement.

The girls had their final closer to home on Tuesday at Chelmsford.  Again their were some top performances in the teams which saw the Junior girls score a total of 282 points finshing in 8th place.  The Inter girls team proved to be the stars of the day with them scoring an impressive 365 points finishing in 2nd place.  This was enough to secure them a place at the National finals and they go to Hull to represent Coopers Coborn on the 5th July.  We wish them every success there.  Well done!

Essex Schools Athletics

Many Coopers students performed well yesterday representing Havering as they competed in the Essex Track & Field Championships at Melbourne Park, Chelmsford.  Standout performances were from Lawrence Goodacre, who achieved a new school record with an outstanding win in the shot putt of 14.39m, also from Nikki Twine who smashed the school record in the 800m with a time of 2m19s.  Furthermore they have both been selected to represent Essex at the National Schools Championships in Gateshead.  This is a fantastic achievement and we wish them every success there.

Other students that competed and did the school and borough proud on the day were:
Sidnie Sales (1st, 3000m), Eleanor Bounds (1st, 800m), George Perkins (2nd, Long Jump), Nick Duffey (Finalist, 800m), Hannah Bloy (Finalist, 600m), Bethany Chambers (Finalist, 200m), Kweku Ofari-Darko (200m), Alex Roeper (200m), Jon Murphy (Shot), Abbie Taylor (600m), Enis Nazif (Long Jump), Gemma Phillips (1500m), Kirsty Evans (High Jump), Rebecca Chapman (High Jump), Grace Duffey (600m), Emily Clements (1500m), Jon Foong (Hurdles), Gopal Sagoo (100m) and Jonathon Murphy (Shot).

Tennis Update

The school tennis teams have been performing exceptionally well this season so far.  The U19 boys team of Elliot Bussey, Simon Weatherup, Jordan Jones and James Davis made it through to the regional final of the Glanvill cup competitions.  A bravely fought fixture last week at Next Generation Tennis Club saw them narrowly beaten in an epic tie-break shoot out by John Lyon School after the matches were tied 3-3.  Congratulations to all the team for getting this far and a special mention to Simon Weatherup who remains unbeaten in his singles matches throughout school!  Only one more year to go for a clean sheet.

Not to be outdone the girls U19 team have gone one better and they won their regional final match last week after a thrilling battle with Benenden School.  Two championship tie-breaks saw them go through to the National Finals at Queenswood in July. Well done girls and best of luck in the next round.
Players: Helen Parish, Adele Sammons, Emily Defroand, Eva Dench and Sian Green.

Havering Championships - Coopers are currently dominated the Havering Championships with the following pupils making it through to the finals:

U15 Boys Singles: Billy Elliot
U15 Boys Doubles: Jordan Jones & Tom Wilson

Corus Kids Of Steel Triathlon

40 year 7,8 and 9 pupils competed in their first ever triathlon yestersday at Blackshots Leisure Centre in Grays.  The event was designed as an introduction to triathlon and comprised a 2 length swim, 2 km bike ride and 1 km run.  It was well organised with the competitors completing a proper triathlon course with a swim around 2 buoys, running out of the pool to their box where they put on their bike/run wear, taking a bike from the area, completing the bike course on grass, back into transition where their bikes were dropped off and finally running all the way to the finish line.

All pupils enjoyed the taster and many are now looking to enter full triathlons.  Triathlon is an event that could be very big at the school and we will shortly be setting up a link with the local triathlon club so keep your eyes peeled for further information.

You can find some action shots in the photo gallery and click the links below for further information.

This weekend saw one of the greatest sporting achievements in the schools history!  The Year 10 boys, year 10 girls and year 12 girls Biathlon teams all become National Champions.  To have three teams achieve this accolade is unprecedented and all pupils involved performed remarkably well.  As well as this James Davis finished 1st individually for year 10, Tom Toolis finished 2nd in the same age group, and Georgie-Lou Sales finished 1st for year 12 girls.  The Biathlon is a challenging event and involves a 100m swim and a 1000m run.  It was an amazing weekend away held at Bath Univerisity and personal bests were seen all round, with some pupils knocking as much as 28 secs off their running teams.  Everyone showed great team spirit on the day and the hard work, commitment and dedication to training certainly paid off as Coopers made a clean sweep even knocking Millfield into second place!  Congratulations to all involved you should be very proud of yourselves.  Results were as follows:
